Sports Illustrated panelists Chris Mannix, Blake Silverman, and Liam McEwan have identified the Trail Blazers as a team that could falter.

While Mannix and Silverman initially considered Portland a candidate for disappointment, they ultimately chose Phoenix, acknowledging the close competition for playoff spots. However, McEwan specifically pointed to the Trail Blazers, citing an excessive reliance on Israeli player Deni Avdija. McEwan suggested Avdija leans too heavily on favorable calls to be considered a top playoff option, especially with 36-year-old Damian Lillard recovering from an Achilles tendon tear and the uncertain trajectory of the Ja Morant acquisition.

McEwan further elaborated that the team's roster presents a significant challenge for first-year head coach Chauncey Billups. He highlighted that any absence of key defensive players like Jrue Holiday and Toumani Camara would severely hamper the team's ability to stop opponents in crucial moments. McEwan concluded that there are more potential pitfalls than pathways to success for the Trail Blazers in the upcoming season.
