Son Recounts Father's Final Moments During Yom Kippur Terror Attack

Yoav, the 16-year-old son of Natanel Shkaron, who was killed in a shooting attack in the Benjamin region on the eve of Yom Kippur, described the terrifying moments his father died before his eyes. The family had arrived at a spring for Yom Kippur, immersed themselves, and returned to their car. Yoav recounted that his father, Natanel, suddenly identified a terrorist and shouted at him to flee. Yoav then saw the terrorist shooting at his father.

The terrorist approached from Yoav's side, but initially fired at his father before turning towards Yoav. Yoav managed to move to the driver's side, open the door, and escape the vehicle while the terrorist continued to shoot at him. He ran and hid in bushes across the road until a military jeep arrived.

After soldiers fired shots, Yoav returned to the car and found his father deceased, recognizing the fatal injuries. He noted that other visitors at the spring, about a minute's walk away, had not initially noticed the attack.

Yoav described the Yom Kippur holiday as extremely difficult and profound, stating it made him understand the true meaning of the Day of Judgment. He remembered his father as someone with whom he had a very good relationship, who always helped him, and wished for people to remember his father's smile.
