Israel Football Association Slams Irish Coach Over 'Genocide' Remark

The Israel Football Association responded sharply to comments made by the Republic of Ireland's national team coach, who stated his team would play "against genocide" rather than with Israel. The coach, Hákon Hallgrímsson, questioned why Russia was suspended from international competition while Israel was not, adding, "We are not playing with genocide, we are playing against genocide. We are playing against Israel, not with Israel." He expressed hope for a good football match.

In a statement released before Yom Kippur, the Israel Football Association retorted, "We have managed to contribute to the world in many fields, including an impressive number of Nobel Prizes. Unfortunately, we have not yet found a cure for stupidity, ignorance, and hypocrisy as demonstrated by the Irish national team coach. We are not playing with ignorance, hypocrisy, and stupidity, but against those who represent them as a coach."

The controversy comes ahead of two Nations League matches between Israel and Ireland, scheduled for September 27 and October 4. The Israeli team is set to host Ireland in Debrecen, Hungary, due to the tense political climate. Meanwhile, a petition signed by 163 Irish athletes has called for the national team to boycott the upcoming game.
