Prominent Haredi Rabbi Dies During Yom Kippur Closing Prayers

Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Reiner, a respected figure in the Adat Yerushalayim 'Ha'Matmidim' community in Beitar Illit, passed away at the age of 63 at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. He died during the Neilah prayer service on Yom Kippur, following an illness over the past year.

Born in 1963, Rabbi Reiner was the son of Rabbi Eliyahu Reiner, a prominent figure in the Mea Shearim neighborhood and a student of Rabbi Elyashiv, and Mrs. Chava Zissel Weiss. He married the daughter of Rabbi Boruch Reuven Shlomo Rubin.

Rabbi Reiner served as an educator at the Kaminetz Talmud Torah for several years and worked at the Brisker's matzah bakery to support his family. In 1986, as a young yeshiva student, he published a commentary on the Hoshana Rabbah prayers, titled 'Hoshana Rabbah Me'u'arot,' explaining the text based on biblical commentators. He was known for his joyful demeanor and for frequently visiting the grave of Rabbi Yeshayah Steiner of Kerestir in Hungary.

For decades, Rabbi Reiner served as the cantor for the Neilah prayer at the Matmidim synagogue in Beitar Illit. He was laid to rest on Monday night, following his passing on Yom Kippur, at the Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.
