Clalit Health Fund Invests $400 Million Shekels in New Southern Logistics Center
Clalit Health Services, Israel's largest healthcare provider, is establishing a new, large-scale logistics center in Beersheba, with an estimated investment of approximately 400 million shekels. This facility is designed to enhance the supply of medicines and medical equipment to Clalit's hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies in the southern region, bolstering its delivery capabilities during both routine times and emergencies.
The center will be built on a 23-dunam site, featuring approximately 27,500 square meters of built space above ground. It will incorporate automated machinery for inventory management, picking, and distribution. Clalit stated that the center is planned to meet the organization's storage and distribution needs for many years to come.
This new hub will directly supply Soroka Hospital in Beersheba and Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat, along with hundreds of community clinics and pharmacies in the south. Upon its completion, Clalit will operate three main logistics centers, complementing existing facilities in Shoham and Haifa. The decision to create an independent logistics arm in the south was influenced by lessons learned during the recent war, particularly concerning potential disruptions to medical supply chains due to damaged infrastructure or blocked transportation routes.
The center aims to maintain a local medical inventory, reducing reliance on supplies from central Israel. Clalit highlighted that the automated systems will enable more precise inventory management, faster delivery times, and improved operational efficiency. This project is part of a broader plan to build independent logistics infrastructure in the south, driven by Clalit's growing operations and customer base in the region. The construction is expected to create over 100 jobs in pharmacy, administration, and operations. Beersheba Mayor Rubik Danilovich noted that the municipality has supported this initiative for two years, emphasizing the center's role in providing essential resources to residents in routine and emergency situations.
