Clalit Health Fund Invests $100 Million in New Logistics Hub in Beersheba

Clalit Health Fund, Israel's largest healthcare provider, announced plans to invest NIS 400 million (approximately $100 million) in constructing a new, advanced logistics center in Beersheba. This strategic move, significantly influenced by lessons learned during the recent war, aims to bolster the healthcare system's logistical independence in southern Israel.

The decision was partly driven by the severe damage sustained by Soroka Hospital and southern infrastructure from missile attacks, as well as wartime disruptions to supply chains. The new center is intended to ensure the continuity of medical supplies during both routine operations and emergencies, thereby strengthening the resilience of the Negev region.

The facility will be built on a 23-dunam site, featuring approximately 27,500 square meters of built space equipped with automated systems for inventory management, picking, and distribution. Clalit stated the project is designed to meet the organization's storage and distribution needs for at least the next two decades, anticipating continued growth in its services and customer base in the south.

Currently, Clalit operates two main logistics centers in Shoham and Haifa. The Beersheba hub will enable direct and rapid supply not only to hospitals like Soroka and Yoseftal but also to hundreds of community clinics and pharmacies affiliated with Clalit in the region. This tri-hub distribution network (north, center, and south) is expected to enhance the healthcare system's operational capabilities during emergencies by reducing reliance on central transportation routes and shortening delivery times.

Clalit emphasized that an independent logistics backbone for the south is crucial. The new center will allow for risk diversification, ensuring critical medical supplies are readily available even if infrastructure is damaged or routes are blocked. Beersheba Mayor Rubik Danilovich hailed the project as a major development for the city and the Negev, noting it will create over 100 new jobs and provide essential resources for both normal times and emergencies.
