Israel Shells Gaza, Tanks Fire Amid Ceasefire Violations
The Israeli military continued artillery shelling and tank fire in eastern and southern Gaza on Monday, striking residential buildings in the northeastern Bureij refugee camp, according to Palestinian sources. These actions occurred on the 347th day of a ceasefire agreement, which the Israeli forces reportedly violated 14 times, resulting in dozens of injuries. Heavy, low-flying warplanes were also observed over the Gaza Strip.
In Gaza City, Israeli tanks fired intensely on eastern areas, while artillery shelled northern areas and the city's east. Civil defense reported that artillery also hit areas east of Gaza City and south of Khan Younis, coinciding with renewed tank fire in those areas. In southern Gaza, Israeli military vehicles fired heavily in the Al-Shawkosh area north of Rafah and targeted displaced persons' tents in the Fash Fash area of Mawasi Khan Younis.
In central Gaza, artillery and vehicle fire hit Palestinian homes in the northern areas of Bureij camp. Israeli vehicles targeted eastern areas of Jabalia camp in the north, and helicopters fired in the northern Bureij area. The Israeli army also demolished residential buildings in the northeastern Bureij area, accompanied by shelling and gunfire targeting homes north of the camp.
These developments unfold amidst daily violations of the ceasefire and calm agreement, brokered by Arab and American mediators in Sharm El Sheikh on October 10, 2025, which stipulated an end to the war. The ongoing violations persist despite understandings announced in July 2026 regarding the second phase of the calm, and following U.S. President Donald Trump's July 31 announcement of a "new agreement" to begin the second phase of the Gaza "road map."
