Israel Sees Bicycle Sales Surge Ahead of Yom Kippur Holiday
Israeli retailers are experiencing a significant surge in sales, particularly for bicycles, in the days leading up to Yom Kippur. Supermarkets and toy stores have stocked up to meet the anticipated demand, a phenomenon driven by the tradition of empty roads during the Day of Atonement. This consumer boom is particularly evident in bicycle sales, making the final days before the holiday a busy period for the retail sector, according to Israel Hayom.
Delivery services and major retail chains are reporting record activity. The express delivery service Wolt noted a nearly 90% increase in orders for two-wheeled vehicles compared to average figures. The "Yohananof" supermarket chain reported that all its children's bicycle models were sold out early in the sales rush. Major children's retail chains, including "Idan 2000" and "Kfar Ha'Shaashuim," have confirmed their readiness for the traditional last-minute surge in customer purchases.
Market experts observe a notable trend, with Gadi Mintz, owner of the "Rosen and Mintz" chain, highlighting a 10% overall sales increase this year. He attributes this partly to a psychological sense of returning to normalcy. Despite the crowds and queues, shoppers remain patient, anticipating the joy their children will experience riding bikes on the car-free streets.
Concurrently, there's a reported positive shift in road safety awareness. Roi Nesimi from "Matzman et Ha'Mirutz" stated that Israelis are showing greater consciousness regarding their personal safety. This is reflected in a record demand for related safety gear, including helmets, quality lighting, gloves, and reflective elements, aimed at minimizing injury risks during holiday rides.
