Retailers Compete on Price for Children's Bicycles Ahead of Yom Kippur

As Yom Kippur approaches, Israeli retailers are intensifying competition to attract families looking to buy children's bicycles for the holiday. The tradition of children riding bikes on the roads, which are cleared of cars during the fast, has become a significant part of the holiday for many families, leading to increased demand.

Prices for children's bicycles vary significantly, with some chains like Amigo, Sapirala Toys, and ACE offering models priced between 250 to 300 shekels. However, other retailers are offering much lower prices. Rami Levy's Stock store sells bicycles for 200 shekels, while Victory is advertising children's BMX bikes for as low as 149.90 shekels.

Beyond price, experts emphasize the importance of selecting the correct bicycle size for a child. Bicycle size for children is typically determined by wheel diameter, with common sizes including 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 24 inches. While age is a factor, height and leg length are crucial, and it is recommended that children try the bike before purchase to ensure they can safely touch the ground and comfortably reach the pedals.

When choosing a bicycle, parents are advised to check for stability, proper brake function, and secure attachments of key components like the handlebars, seat, and wheels. For younger children, the weight of the bicycle is also a consideration, as a heavy bike can be difficult to control. Ensuring a proper fit is paramount for safety and ease of use, even if it means a slightly higher cost than the cheapest options.
