Home Front Command Urges Vigilance During Yom Kippur Holiday

Israel's Home Front Command has issued guidance to the public regarding potential emergencies during the upcoming Yom Kippur holiday. The Command emphasized that national and regional radio stations, excluding Arabic-language broadcasts, will suspend regular programming. However, these stations will continue to transmit emergency alerts from the Home Front Command. Residents are advised to keep a radio tuned to an available frequency throughout the holiday to receive these alerts in addition to siren warnings.

With many children expected to be outdoors during Yom Kippur, parents are urged to review safety protocols with them. This includes explaining what to do if an alert sounds while they are cycling. Children should be instructed to carefully pull over to the side of the road, dismount, and seek shelter in the nearest building. If no shelter is available, they should lie on the ground, cover their heads, and remain in that position for 10 minutes.

The Home Front Command also recommends staying connected via its mobile application, ensuring "zones of interest" are configured. The app will continue to provide real-time emergency warnings, instructions, and vital information during Yom Kippur.

Separately, public transportation services in Israel began a phased shutdown on September 20 in anticipation of Yom Kippur, which concludes on the evening of September 21. Bus, train, and tram services were halted before the start of the fast, with train services resuming later than other forms of public transport.
