Documentary Series 'Masar' Spotlights Negev Youth Aspirations and Challenges
A special episode of the documentary series 'Masar' (Path), produced by Makan TV, focusing on Ziad Al-Dada, a young man from the Bedouin town of Kuseife in the Negev, was screened in Rahat. The event, held at the Rahat Cultural Palace, drew educators, media professionals, cultural figures, social activists, Al-Dada's family, and supporters.
The episode chronicles Al-Dada's journey after high school, exploring his aspirations, the challenges he faced, and his questions about the future, particularly regarding university major selection. The screening was followed by a discussion panel that delved into the issues raised in the film, emphasizing the importance of supporting young people during this critical decision-making period, especially given the unique challenges faced by youth in the southern region of Israel.
Several speakers highlighted the documentary's significance in showcasing youth experiences. Fuad Al-Zayadenah, Director of the Rahat Community Center, welcomed attendees and praised the event's role in providing a platform for young people to share their stories. Fadi Al-Zayadenah, Director of Culture and Arts, underscored the value of cultural and media initiatives that empower youth to narrate their experiences and aspirations.
The discussion, moderated by teacher Salam Subeih, featured individuals connected to Al-Dada's journey, including his media teacher, Mohammad Othman, who spoke about the role of media studies in developing student skills and confidence. Hussein Al-Dada, a graduate of the media program now teaching it, shared his personal experience of returning to his alma mater. Ziad Al-Dada himself discussed his feelings and challenges during the filming process. His mother, Hanan Al-Dada, emphasized the crucial role of family support in navigating post-high school decisions. Ruba Warwar, Programs Director at Makan TV, and journalist Hussein Al-Abra also spoke about the media's power to amplify youth voices and address their concerns.
The event concluded with the audience expressing strong support and encouragement for Al-Dada, demonstrating the impact of his story and the series' message.
