Turkish Pegasus Airlines to Acquire Smartwings, Czech Airlines

Turkish airline Pegasus is set to acquire Czech Airlines and gain control of the Smartwings group, a move approved with conditions by the Czech Competition Authority. The deal, valued at approximately 154 million euros, involves the full acquisition of Czech Airlines and control over Smartwings and its subsidiaries. Smartwings is a familiar name to Israeli travelers, operating regular and charter flights from Central Europe, including routes to and from Israel.

The primary concern for Israeli passengers is the potential impact on Smartwings' operations and brand following the acquisition. Currently, there are no immediate plans to change Smartwings' operations to Israel, rebrand flights as Pegasus, replace aircraft, or cancel routes. Both Smartwings and Pegasus are expected to continue operating as separate brands initially, even after the deal is finalized.
