Israel Prepares for Yom Kippur Holiday Travel Halts

Israel is gearing up for the upcoming Yom Kippur holiday, a period marked by a near-complete cessation of public transportation and air travel. As the Day of Atonement approaches, all train services will be suspended starting Friday at 3:00 PM (15:00) and will resume on Saturday evening at 8:00 PM (20:00). Bus services will also cease operations earlier on Friday, with the last buses scheduled to depart from their stations by 2:00 PM (14:00), resuming their routes on Saturday night after the holiday concludes.

Ben Gurion Airport will experience significant disruptions as well. All air traffic is set to halt on Friday at 2:00 PM (14:00) and will not resume until Saturday evening at 11:59 PM (23:59), effectively grounding all flights for the duration of the holiday. This widespread shutdown affects not only domestic travel but also international flights arriving and departing from Israel.

The holiday, observed by Jewish people worldwide, is a solemn day of fasting, prayer, and atonement. In Israel, it is traditionally marked by a significant reduction in activity, with roads becoming largely empty and public transportation grinding to a halt. This year, the holiday begins on Friday afternoon and concludes on Saturday evening.
