Bnei Sakhnin Secures First League Win of Season with Debut Goal

Bnei Sakhnin achieved their first victory of the 2026/27 season on Saturday, defeating Hapoel Ramat Gan 1-0 at home. The decisive goal came from new signing Liray Awuso in the 67th minute of his debut match.

Awuso, a 30-year-old who came up through Ajax's youth system, replaced the injured Maron Gantos just before halftime. He scored the winning goal after a skillful play in the box, assisted by Matthew Cudjoe. Antonio Spósito also hit the post shortly before the goal.

Despite facing boos from the home crowd at halftime due to a lackluster performance, Sakhnin, managed by Yossi Abuksis, improved in the second half. The team was somewhat shorthanded, missing striker Daniel Parsikiv due to injury, and took time to find their rhythm. Itamar Shviro also made his debut for the team.

Hapoel Ramat Gan had early chances, including a header from Basil Khoury and two saves by goalkeeper Raul Bravo in the second half, but failed to convert. The loss leaves Hapoel Ramat Gan with only 3 points, while Sakhnin moves to 5 points ahead of a tough match against Maccabi Tel Aviv after the international break. Hapoel Ramat Gan's away record in the top league remains poor, with their last away win dating back to the 2012/13 season.
