Bnei Sakhnin Secures First League Win of Season with Debut Goal

Bnei Sakhnin achieved their first victory of the 2026/27 season on Saturday, defeating Hapoel Ramat Gan 1-0 at home in Doha Stadium. The decisive goal came from new signing Liruy Owusu in the 67th minute of his debut match.

Owusu, a 30-year-old who came up through Ajax's youth system, replaced the injured Maron Gantos just before halftime. He skillfully navigated the penalty area to score the winning goal, assisted by Matthew Kodjo. Antonio Sefer had earlier hit the post for Sakhnin.

Despite facing boos from the home crowd at halftime due to a lackluster first-half performance, Sakhnin, managed by Yossi Abuksis, improved their play in the second half. The team was somewhat shorthanded, with striker Daniel Parschiv absent due to injury, and it took them time to find their rhythm. Itamar Shviro also made his debut for the team.

Hapoel Ramat Gan had early chances, including a header from Basil Khoury that went wide and two saves by goalkeeper Raul Barbeau in the second half. Their missed opportunities proved costly as Sakhnin capitalized on theirs.

The win lifts Bnei Sakhnin to 5 points in the league standings before the international break. They are set to face Maccabi Tel Aviv next. Hapoel Ramat Gan remains with 3 points after this loss, having previously beaten Maccabi Netanya. This defeat marks Hapoel Ramat Gan's sixth consecutive away loss in the top league since the 2012/13 season.
