EuroLeague CEO to Visit Israel to Assess Return of Games
The CEO of the EuroLeague and EuroCup, Jordi Bartomeu, is scheduled to visit Israel within the next two weeks to assess the possibility of bringing games back to the country. The announcement came from Maccabi Tel Aviv, whose chairman Shimon Mizrahi and professional manager Claudio Coldebella met with Bartomeu and competition manager Diego Giann in Abu Dhabi. The discussions focused on the potential return of games for Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Tel Aviv, and Hapoel Jerusalem to be played in Israel.
Maccabi Tel Aviv stated that while no definitive changes have occurred, Bartomeu and Giann will visit as guests of the club to observe the situation firsthand. Games for these Israeli teams were held outside of Israel for approximately two years before returning in December 2025. However, in late February 2026, a decision was made to move games abroad again due to Operation "Desert Storm" (Sh'at Ha'Ari).
This visit represents a potential step towards normalizing the presence of European basketball competitions within Israel, following a period of disruption.
