EuroLeague Games May Return to Israel Soon, Discussions Underway

Israeli basketball clubs may soon host EuroLeague games again, with discussions expected within two weeks regarding the return of matches to Israel. While it appears unlikely that games will be held in Israel at the start of the season, a return at an early stage is possible. Maccabi Tel Aviv has formally requested the EuroLeague to reconsider holding games in Israel, noting that Israel has been less affected than the UAE and has remained quiet for a longer period. Although the EuroLeague has not officially responded, sources indicate a discussion is imminent.

Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Jerusalem are also closely monitoring the situation and have communicated with the EuroLeague. Both clubs are seeking franchise status ahead of structural changes in the league and understand that playing games in Israel could improve their chances of obtaining a license. Last year, EuroLeague and EuroCup games returned to Israel in early December after a 26-month absence. However, these games were moved outside of Israel after just over two months due to the outbreak of war with Iran, concluding the season abroad.
