Israel Forces Lebanese Army From Disputed Border Zone After Standoff

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Lebanese troops established outposts in an "uncoordinated zone" along the border without prior agreement. The IDF reported that its forces "took measures to remove" the Lebanese soldiers after they failed to withdraw despite warnings. The Lebanese army, however, claims it established a temporary observation post near the village of Deir Mimass on September 10th, coordinating it through the UN's tripartite coordination mechanism (MCG4L). The Lebanese Ministry of Defense stated that the post was intended to "ensure the safety of local residents" as they inspected their agricultural lands.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Defense, an Israeli unit approached this post within the "security zone" on September 18th and threw stun grenades nearby. The Lebanese ministry added that additional Lebanese forces were dispatched to the post, increasing tensions. Following coordination through the "coordination mechanism," the Israeli forces reportedly left the area, and the Lebanese forces subsequently abandoned the temporary post and returned to their main positions.
