Bereaved Mother Confronts Former IDF Intelligence Chief Over Lack of Contact

Shali Meshel Yogev, the mother of 22-year-old Libi Cohen Maguri, who was murdered on October 7th, encountered former head of Military Intelligence, Aharon Haliva, during a run in Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park on Friday. Meshel Yogev confronted Haliva, accusing him of failing to contact her family since her daughter's death and stating, "My daughter is buried because of you."

She expressed her anger that Haliva, who lives nearby, had not reached out to the family in the months following the massacre. "You know who I am, and you heard about Libi. You live a kilometer from our house, and for three years since she was murdered, you haven't bothered to talk to us once," Meshel Yogev told Haliva. She contrasted his actions with those of former IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, who she said had reached out to offer condolences.

Meshel Yogev urged Haliva to take responsibility for his failures, stating, "You should feel ashamed and take responsibility, not just breathe and say 'I want to come to you, I want to cry with you, I want to cry with you because I suffer too.' You need to say that you suffer like me! You don't understand this?"

Libi Cohen Maguri was killed while attempting to flee the Nova music festival. In her final moments, she called her parents, informing them she had been shot and was dying. She expressed her love for her family and asked her parents to ensure her siblings were cared for. Despite her parents' plea for her to play dead, terrorists approached her vehicle and killed her at close range.
