Qatar Funds Gaza Fuel Supply Through UN for Humanitarian Needs

Qatar has signed an agreement with the United Nations to supply approximately 1.3 million liters of fuel to the Gaza Strip. Doha announced that the fuel will be provided as a grant and is intended to support the operations of hospitals, medical centers, and other essential humanitarian services.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this delivery aims to ensure the continued functioning of services reliant on a stable power supply. A portion of the fuel is specifically designated for medical facilities, as well as other systems and infrastructure crucial for humanitarian aid delivery.

Doha characterized this latest shipment as a continuation of its aid program for Gaza. According to Qatari figures, between October 7, 2023, and the end of March 2026, Qatar has provided around 30 million liters of fuel to Gaza. This follows a February 2025 announcement of an additional 15 million liters, bringing the total Qatari fuel contributions to 30 million liters.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry stated that approximately 2.1 million residents of the enclave, including children, women, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities, are expected to benefit from this new supply. However, Doha has not specified the exact delivery date, the crossing points it will use, or which UN agency will oversee its distribution.

A key question remains regarding the control and oversight of the fuel's distribution within Gaza once it arrives. While Qatar's official statement mentions an agreement with the UN, the detailed mechanism for how the fuel will be allocated to facilities has not been disclosed.
