Teen Arrested in Stolen Military Rocket Launcher Attack on Israeli Town

Police in central Israel have arrested a 16-year-old boy suspected of involvement in firing a stolen military LAW rocket at a residential compound in the town of Kafr Qasim. The incident, which occurred without any injuries, is being investigated as a criminal act, distinct from typical disputes, due to the use of a weapon intended for the battlefield. Despite the severity of the alleged offense, a court ordered the teen's release under restrictive conditions, a decision that has raised questions given the gravity of the suspicion.

The investigation, led by the Kafr Qasim police station, is part of a broader effort to combat violent crime and the illicit flow of weapons from the Israel Defense Forces into criminal hands. Following the rocket attack, detectives, intelligence officers, and special police units conducted raids in the nearby town of Jaljuliya.

During these raids, officers uncovered a significant cache of weapons, including two handguns, a drum magazine, additional magazines, and ammunition. In one location, authorities also seized 14 surveillance cameras, some of which monitored public areas, as part of the ongoing investigation.

The central questions remaining for investigators are how the military-grade rocket launcher was stolen and obtained by criminals, who fired it at the residential area, and who else may have been involved. The police are continuing their efforts to trace the origin of the rocket and identify all perpetrators, while the 16-year-old suspect is no longer in custody.
