Veteran of 'Flag of Ink' Operation Dies at 95

Yohanan Elishov, a veteran of the 'Flag of Ink' operation during the 1948 War of Independence, passed away at the age of 95. The operation, a significant event in the war, involved the clandestine transport of weapons and supplies to besieged Jerusalem.

Elishov was known for his role in smuggling weapons into Jerusalem, which was under siege by Arab forces. He famously described the smuggled goods as "a sheet, not underwear," highlighting the desperate measures taken to supply the city. His participation in this operation was crucial for the survival of the Jewish population in Jerusalem during the war.

Born in 1929, Elishov lived through many of Israel's defining historical moments. His passing marks the end of an era for those who directly participated in the country's founding battles. He is survived by his children and grandchildren.
