Kiryat Yam to Replace Old Buildings With Over 1,000 New Apartments

Israel is advancing its urban renewal efforts with the approval of the "Shapira" project in Kiryat Yam, a significant urban renovation initiative set to transform the coastal area. The "Pinui-Binui" (evacuation-construction) program will redevelop approximately 35 dunams (about 8.6 acres) of land bordered by Moshe Shapira, Yeshayahu, Jabotinsky, Moshe Sharett streets, and Pinhas Sapir Boulevard, adjacent to the city municipality.

The plan involves demolishing 10 older residential buildings containing 257 apartments. In their place, a new, modern residential complex will be constructed, featuring a total of 1,171 new apartments. The architectural design incorporates the proximity to the sea, with lower, nine-story buildings planned for the immediate coastline and taller towers reaching up to 35 stories further inland. Approximately 30 percent of the new units will be compact, under 80 square meters, and the project also includes 80 units of specialized housing.

Beyond housing, the renovation encompasses infrastructure upgrades. The project includes the development of about 3,950 square meters of commercial space and employment areas. New public buildings, a modern school, and approximately 7 dunams (about 1.7 acres) of open public recreational spaces are also part of the plan.

Transportation in the area will also be improved with the construction of two new streets connecting Shapira and Yeshayahu streets to Sapir Boulevard. This new road infrastructure aims to create a direct and convenient link between Kiryat Yam's eastern neighborhoods and the coast, alleviating traffic on existing roads.
