New Coastal City Neighborhood Approved Near Haifa With Over 1,100 Apartments
A major urban renewal project has been approved in Kiryat Yam, near Haifa, with the National Planning and Building Commission greenlighting the "Shapira" residential complex. The plan includes the construction of 1,171 new apartments, replacing 257 existing units.
The project will feature modern residential buildings, some reaching nine stories high directly on the coastline, and individual towers up to 35 stories. The complex will span approximately 35 dunams (about 8.6 acres) on the beachfront, bordered by Moshe Shapira, Yeshayahu, Pinchas Sapir Boulevard, and Jabotinsky Street.
Infrastructure improvements include two new streets to connect the existing city network with Sapir Boulevard. Approximately 30% of the new apartments will be smaller units, intended to offer housing options for various population segments. A school will be established in the center of the new neighborhood, and each residential block will include open public spaces.
The "Shapira" project is an extension of a similar renewal program for another large area in Kiryat Yam, Yoseftal, which has already received approval. This initiative signifies a significant transformation for Kiryat Yam's coastline, replacing older housing with a modern complex featuring high-rise buildings, amenities, and direct sea access.
