Barcelona and Dusseldorf Airports Top 2026 Global Convenience Rankings

The World Consumer Airport Index 2026 has identified the most convenient global airports based on practical passenger experience, according to Euronews. The index prioritizes factors such as rapid security checks, efficient city connections, short transit times between gates, and minimal flight delays over amenities like shops or terminal aesthetics.

Barcelona-El Prat Airport secured the top spot among major hubs, handling over 47 million passengers annually. Passengers at Barcelona reported an average security check time of approximately three minutes, with the airport also receiving high marks for its public transport links. Following Barcelona in the large airport category were Rome-Fiumicino, Los Angeles, Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, London-Heathrow, Madrid-Barajas, Tokyo-Haneda, and Dubai.

In the category of smaller airports, Dusseldorf Airport was ranked first. Other highly rated smaller airports included Zurich, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Milan-Malpensa, Oslo, Munich, Vancouver, Brussels, and Berlin-Brandenburg.

Israeli airports, including Ben Gurion Airport, were not among the leading airports in this specific Consumer Choice Center study. The researchers evaluated airport transport links to city centers, availability of high-speed transit, ease of movement between terminals, airline choices, delay frequency, and hotel accommodation options.

Airports that performed poorly were characterized by their distance from urban areas, weak rail connections, lengthy security procedures, or a high percentage of flight delays.
