Israeli Arab Man Charged with Aiding Hamas, Contacting Iran
Israeli police and the Shin Bet security agency announced Friday that an indictment will be filed against a young man from the northern Israeli city of Tamra on charges of security offenses. The suspect, Sultan Abu Al-Hija, 31, was arrested on August 28 following a joint investigation.
According to a joint statement, the investigation revealed that Abu Al-Hija allegedly approached the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing in Gaza, multiple times seeking to provide them with covert assistance. The statement also claimed that he made contact with Iranian intelligence entities, though he was reportedly unable to carry out any tasks for them before his arrest.
The indictment is set to be filed Friday at the Haifa District Court. The Shin Bet and police emphasized their serious approach to any involvement by Israeli citizens in activities deemed a threat to state security and pledged to continue taking action against those suspected of such activities.
These charges are currently part of the investigation and prosecution process, with the court to ultimately decide on the accusations against the defendant.
