Maccabi Tel Aviv Wins Israeli Super Cup, Remains Focused on Season Ahead

Maccabi Tel Aviv secured its first-ever Social Super Cup title on Thursday, defeating Hapoel Tel Aviv 101-83 at Menora Mivtachim Arena. Despite the victory, the team's locker room atmosphere was reportedly subdued, with players celebrating with fans on the court but avoiding excessive elation.

Team captain Yam Madar was named MVP, scoring 13 points and dishing out 7 assists in his performance against his former team. Five other players also scored in double figures. The team expressed satisfaction with the contributions of new players like Keeton Wallace and Bonzie Colson, who provided strong play, particularly in the early stages of the game.

"We're happy, it's a title, but it's the start of the season," said Roman Sorkin, who contributed 16 points. "I don't think too many will remember this title, but we are very happy to win it. We have a long season ahead, and we are looking forward to improving game by game." Sorkin also noted that Hapoel Tel Aviv's foul trouble with their big men helped Maccabi capitalize on momentum, though he acknowledged Hapoel remains a dangerous team.

TJ Leaf also made a successful return to play after a seven-month absence due to a shoulder injury, expressing optimism about the team's chemistry and understanding of coach Oded Katash's system. "Mentally I feel great, physically I'm not there yet," Leaf stated, noting that players like Colson and Madar, familiar with the system, are helping integrate the new additions.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will have a day off before resuming training for their upcoming EuroLeague game against ASVEL in France on Thursday. The team is scheduled to travel on Wednesday, with hopes that players Jimmy Clark, Daniel Theis, and Ozzie Brissett, who did not play in the Super Cup, will be available for the next match.
