North Carolina Man Arrested for Sending Antisemitic Threats to Jewish Organizations

Federal authorities in the United States have arrested Brian Charles, a resident of North Carolina, on suspicion of sending letters containing antisemitic threats to Jewish organizations and their leaders. He has been charged with sending threatening communications, according to JNS, citing a federal complaint.

According to the FBI, Charles sent letters from Charlotte, North Carolina, to recipients in Florida and Washington D.C. during June and July. Among the recipients were the Holocaust Memorial in Miami Beach, the Palm Beach branch of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), and a leader of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). The letters reportedly contained threats to kill Jews.

Investigators identified Charles as a suspect after his fingerprint was found on a letter sent to the AJC. Additionally, several envelopes listed his name and return address in Charlotte. Another letter, according to court documents, was addressed to two individuals under the protection of the U.S. Secret Service.

Charles has a prior record for similar offenses. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to five counts of sending threatening letters and was sentenced to 542 days in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
