Umm Al-Fahm Holds Emergency Meeting After Police Shooting Death

Umm Al-Fahm Municipality and the Popular Committee held an emergency meeting on Thursday evening following the fatal police shooting of young man Alaa Muhammad Musa Mahamid. The municipality stated that the meeting was attended by representatives of the victim's family, city council members, the Popular Committee, and activists. Mayor Dr. Samir Subhi led the session, which reviewed the incident and details surrounding Mahamid's death, which the municipality described as "cold-blooded murder without any crime committed or threat to police officers."

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Subhi outlined several decisions. These include organizing a dignified public funeral for Mahamid in coordination with his family, holding a protest rally at the main city roundabout on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 PM, and requesting an emergency meeting of the Follow-up Committee and the National Committee in Umm Al-Fahm. The municipality also emphasized the need to address the practices of the Border Police, which they characterized as aggressive towards citizens.

Furthermore, the meeting resolved to pursue legal avenues in cooperation with the family to pressure authorities into forming an impartial investigative committee, separate from the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash).
