Ex-IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari Considered for Political List

Former IDF Spokesperson Daniel Hagari was a surprise candidate considered for the "Yashar" political list led by Gadi Eisenkot until the final moments before the list's submission deadline. Eisenkot and Hagari held discussions about Hagari potentially joining the Knesset list, with Eisenkot viewing him as a potential electoral asset. A poll commissioned by Eisenkot indicated that both Hagari and current MK Chili Tropper could provide an electoral boost to the list and its bloc. While Tropper was ultimately included in the list, Hagari decided against entering politics, opting to continue with his private endeavors. The close relationship between Eisenkot and Hagari stems from their time together in the military, where Hagari served as Eisenkot's personal aide and later as commander of the elite Shayetet 13 naval commando unit. Hagari also publicly addressed the death of Eisenkot's son, Gal, during his tenure as IDF spokesperson. Despite Eisenkot's efforts to persuade him, Hagari ultimately made the decision not to join the political arena for personal reasons and a desire to pursue his private career. Hagari stated, "As I have stated in the past, I have never had any intention of entering politics." A representative for Eisenkot's party declined to comment on private conversations.
