Kinneret Beach's Famous 'Bora Bora' Ordered Demolished After 17 Years

A district court in Nazareth has ordered the immediate cancellation of operating permits and the demolition of illegal structures at the popular "Bora Bora" beach on the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret). The dramatic ruling, issued Wednesday, mandates the swift removal of all encroachments and fences that have for years blocked public access to the shoreline.

The decision came after a petition filed by the environmental organization "Adam Teva V'Din" and its planning director, Yael Dori. For approximately 17 years, the private beach charged admission, operating under a series of temporary permits for "deviating use" without an approved building plan. The court declared that temporary planning mechanisms cannot be used to expropriate public natural resources for private entities.

Environmental activists praised the ruling, emphasizing its broad implications. Attorney Ortal Sanker stated the court sent a clear message that planning and enforcement must be integrated. The decision is expected not only to reopen this specific beach but also to facilitate the completion of the "Kinneret Circumference Trail" and return the lake's natural assets to the public.
