Contractor Arrested for Extorting Another Contractor in Northern Israel

Israeli police arrested a contractor from Umm al-Fahm on suspicion of extorting another contractor from Usfiya. The arrest followed an investigation by police in Nesher, who, with the assistance of Carmel undercover police and Umm al-Fahm officers, searched the suspect's home. Evidence allegedly linking him to the crime was seized during the search. A court extended the suspect's detention until Sunday, September 26, 2026. Police stated they will continue to act decisively against extortion and threats.

This incident follows a recent indictment filed by the State Prosecutor's Office in Tel Aviv against three individuals, including Mohammed Daka, Ibrahim Al-Sayed, and Ka'ed Daka, for offenses including protection rackets, extortion, money laundering, and tax offenses. The indictment alleges that between 2023 and 2026, Mohammed Daka and Ibrahim Al-Sayed established control over the Pardes Daka neighborhood in Tel Aviv, instilling fear in contractors and developers. According to the indictment, many contractors felt compelled to comply with their demands due to fear of repercussions, even without explicit threats. Non-compliance reportedly led to systematic damage to construction sites, work disruptions, significant project delays, damage to equipment, and blocked access routes. The indictment claims the two forced construction companies to hire their services, such as security, earthmoving, waste removal, and equipment rental, often at inflated prices.
