Jerusalem Prepares for Sukkot with Traditional 'Four Species' Market

Jerusalem is gearing up for the upcoming Sukkot holiday with the reopening of its traditional "Four Species" market in Valero Square, Mahane Yehuda. This decades-old Jerusalem tradition will offer residents and visitors a wide array of goods for the holiday over four days, from Tuesday, September 22, to the eve of Sukkot.

The market will feature stalls selling the "Four Species" (etrog, lulav, hadassim, aravot), Sukkah decorations, Judaica items, and other holiday essentials. Thousands of people are expected to visit the market during its operating hours: Tuesday to Thursday, September 22-24, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and Friday, September 25, from 8:00 AM until one hour before the holiday begins.

The "Four Species" market is a key part of Jerusalem's Tishrei holiday events, adding to the Mahane Yehuda area's unique atmosphere during this time of year. Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion stated, "Sukkot is a holiday of tradition, family, hospitality, and joy, and there is no better place to experience this atmosphere than Jerusalem. The 'Four Species' market is a long-standing Jerusalem tradition that connects the city's residents, visitors, and the diverse communities that make up Jerusalem. I invite everyone to come, experience, shop, and feel Jerusalem's unique holiday spirit."

The Jerusalem Municipality is also enhancing city services, including cleaning, sanitation, maintenance, security, and enforcement, across the city, with a particular focus on entertainment and commercial areas, in preparation for the Tishrei holidays.
