Herzog Calls for Resolution to Netanyahu Trial, Citing Societal Damage

President Isaac Herzog stated on Thursday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ongoing trial "must end" because it is "tearing Israeli society apart" and causing "long-term, severe, and significant damage." Speaking in an interview with Kan News, Herzog reiterated his proposal for mediation under the auspices of the President's Residence to resolve the case, noting that Netanyahu has not yet responded but that the offer remains open.

Herzog expressed his belief that legal principles can be upheld through a settlement, suggesting that such an arrangement would ultimately be discussed and agreed upon. He also addressed the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for a stable government in Israel afterward. The President affirmed his readiness to intervene if a political situation arises that necessitates his involvement.

In a separate segment of the interview, Herzog commented on the film "Nezar," which deals with decision-making processes during wartime. He asserted that every IDF unit has legal advisors overseeing decisions and cited instances where cabinet decisions were delayed to prevent harm. Herzog described the film as "a disgrace and a shame."
