Motty Steinmetz Releases New Yom Kippur Production 'Nechdal'
Singer Motty Steinmetz has released "Nechdal," a new production for the eve of Yom Kippur. The piece combines song and narrative, centering on the story of Avrum and Zalman, who were bunkmates in the Majdanek concentration camp.
The narrative follows their lives from their time in the camp, through the years after liberation, and culminates in a dramatic reunion in a synagogue. A slice of bread stolen in Majdanek left a lasting impression on Avrum, who later became a successful businessman known for his strict adherence to ethical financial dealings. The story unfolds over decades until the two former bunkmates meet again during a Kaddish service, where they discover what happened to their other bunkmate from the camp many years prior. The reunion ends with an embrace, conveying a message of purity and love in anticipation of Yom Kippur.
