Tribute Event Honors Late Palestinian Artist Mohammed Bakri in Haifa
The Arab Culture Association in Haifa and the family of the late Palestinian artist Mohammed Bakri organized a memorial event on Wednesday at the "Sard" theater in Haifa. The event, attended by a large number of artists, colleagues, and family members, celebrated the life and work of the renowned actor and filmmaker.
The memorial included a dialogue session moderated by writer Fardous Habib Allah, featuring Bakri's daughter Yaffa Bakri, actor Makram Khoury, Arab Culture Association board member Antoine Shalhat, and Bakri's son Saleh Bakri. A documentary produced by the Arab Culture Association about Bakri's life was screened, along with a performance by artist Hussam Abu Aisha, showcasing elements of Bakri's work. The event also featured a musical performance by Yaffa Bakri and a screening of his film "Al-Dunya," concluding with a tribute to the artist's family.
Youssef Taha, Director General of the Arab Culture Association, stated that Bakri left a lasting impact on Palestinian theater, cinema, and people, and his contributions will continue to inspire future generations. Taha also noted the passing of three prominent figures in Palestinian art and culture this year: Mohammed Bakri, Suleiman Mansour, and Ahmed Qabour.
Saleh Bakri expressed gratitude to the association for honoring his father, describing him as a symbol of resilience who faced persecution and illness with dignity. He emphasized the importance of such tributes in recognizing the efforts and sacrifices of those dedicated to their nation.
Artist Hussam Abu Aisha, who worked with Bakri for over 30 years, shared that the event was initiated by Bakri's admirers. He described Bakri as a simple man who loved being among people, learning from them, and cherished children.
