Cyber Unit Warns of Booking.com Phishing Scams
Israel's National Cyber Directorate has issued a warning regarding phishing attempts impersonating the popular hotel booking website, Booking.com. The directorate reported receiving alerts about messages containing links to fake websites designed to mimic Booking.com. These messages typically ask recipients to confirm hotel reservations.
In some instances, the fraudulent messages include genuine booking details, such as stay dates and reservation numbers. This tactic is intended to enhance the credibility of the scam and trick unsuspecting users into clicking the malicious links. The Cyber Directorate emphasized that such details could be obtained through data breaches or other means, making them appear legitimate.
To protect themselves, the public is advised not to click on links within suspicious messages. Instead, users should verify their bookings directly through the official Booking.com website or its mobile application. Any suspected phishing attempts should be reported to the National Cyber Directorate's hotline at 119.
