Actress Rotem Zissman-Cohen Returns to Cinema After Religious Turn

Actress Rotem Zissman-Cohen is set to make a comeback to the screen after years away from the spotlight, according to a report by Mako. Zissman-Cohen, who became religiously observant and distanced herself from public life in recent years, will star in the new film "HaOleh" (The Ascendant). She will portray Tzvia, a seasoned and devout conversion teacher guiding immigrants on their path to Judaism.

The character embodies a commitment to Halakha (Jewish law) combined with compassion, patience, and the ability to see the individual behind the bureaucratic process of conversion. Zissman-Cohen's return to acting follows a period focused on her personal life and raising her children with her husband, actor Maurice Cohen. During this time, she largely abstained from television and film work.

"HaOleh" is directed and written by Eliran Elya, known for his previous works "Motel Besafeik" (In Doubt) and "Ha'Ir HaTova" (The Good City). Elya recently joined the "Yashar" party led by Gadi Eisenkot and previously served as chairman of the Directors Guild of Israel.
