Israel Sees Surge in Home Solar Panel Installations

Israel is experiencing a significant increase in the installation of solar energy systems on residential rooftops, with data from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure revealing a substantial rise in connections. Over the 12 months from July 2025 to June 2026, approximately 9,800 home solar systems were connected, a 33% increase compared to the previous year's 7,400. The trend is accelerating, with nearly 5,000 systems connected in the first half of 2026, up 37% from the same period in 2025. If this pace continues, 2026 is projected to end with a record high of around 10,000 new systems.

This growth follows the launch of the Ministry's "100,000 Roofs" program a year ago, aimed at boosting renewable energy installations on private homes. The Ministry has been actively working to remove barriers, improve public information, and encourage solar adoption by highlighting economic benefits, enhanced energy security, and environmental contributions.

A current public campaign by the Ministry urges homeowners to explore the financial advantages of installing solar panels, emphasizing favorable tariffs available only until the end of 2026. The campaign, coupled with the Ministry's recent initiatives, has spurred public interest and led to the observed increase in system connections.

Installing a solar system can be a financially rewarding move, potentially turning electricity bills into a source of income. The electricity generated is sold back to the grid, and in some cases, homeowners receive payments from the electric company, effectively reversing the traditional bill. The Ministry showcases examples where homeowners have a credit balance, meaning their solar generation has resulted in income rather than an expense.
