Rehovot Municipality Distributes Reusable Plates to All City Kindergartens

The Rehovot Municipality's Environment and Sustainability Unit, in collaboration with the Education Administration and the Health Promotion Unit, has launched a new initiative to make breakfast in kindergartens more pleasant, colorful, and inviting, while simultaneously promoting healthy habits and responsible environmental practices. The design of the plates aims to encourage children to actively participate in meals, assemble diverse plates for themselves, and be exposed to various foods, tastes, and textures. Alongside fostering proper eating habits, the use of reusable plates will reduce the amount of disposable tableware in kindergartens, integrating environmental stewardship into the daily routines of young children. The municipality is urging parents to adopt this approach at home, dedicating time for shared meals, encouraging children to experiment with different foods, and reinforcing healthy eating habits throughout the afternoon and evening.

Mayor Matan Diel stated, "We see education for health and sustainability as a central value and encourage it from a young age. This new move combines proper eating habits, curiosity, and environmental responsibility as a natural part of the kindergarten routine. It is another step reflecting our thinking about creating a quality, enriching childhood experience tailored to the needs of children." Deputy Mayor and Head of Urban Aesthetics and Environment, Zohar Blum, added, "This welcome initiative by the Environment and Sustainability Unit proves once again that the connection between health promotion and environmental protection is a winning combination. Reducing disposable items in kindergartens is an important step in the city's fight for the environment, and it begins with educating the younger generation."
