Sakhnin Man Charged With Shooting at Home and Vehicle
Police in northern Israel have arrested a 23-year-old man from Sakhnin and filed charges against him for allegedly firing a weapon at a home and a vehicle in the city. The incident occurred on August 28, 2026, around 2:00 AM, during a broad police and National Guard operation in Sakhnin aimed at preventing shootings and crime.
Officers patrolling the area heard gunshots and immediately responded. They spotted a suspect fleeing the scene on an electric scooter, wearing a helmet and gloves. When the suspect noticed the police patrol, he stopped the scooter, discarded a handgun, and attempted to flee on foot, even trying to climb a gate.
Police apprehended the suspect within minutes. The discarded handgun was recovered nearby, found to be loaded with a bullet in the chamber. Following the investigation, prosecutors in Haifa filed an indictment against the 23-year-old Sakhnin resident at the Haifa District Court, also requesting his detention until the legal proceedings are concluded.
