Crime Boss Eran Khaya to Be Extradited to Israel After 9 Years Abroad

After a nine-year absence, Israeli crime boss Eran Khaya is set to be extradited to Israel from the United States. Khaya, 43, considered by Israeli police to be a major target and the head of a prominent crime organization, fled Israel in 2018 shortly before a wave of arrests. He initially escaped to South Africa and was later apprehended in Malaysia in April 2024. From Malaysia, he was transferred to the U.S., where he was wanted for fraud offenses. His presence in the U.S. allowed Israeli authorities to pursue his extradition, a process not possible from Malaysia due to a lack of diplomatic relations.

During his detention in a federal facility in Brooklyn, Khaya mounted a legal battle against extradition, claiming he was "kidnapped." His defense team argued that his expected prison conditions in Israel would be "inhumane." However, a U.S. court rejected these claims, ruling him eligible for extradition.

Khaya is a central figure in Israel's ongoing conflict with the Mosely crime family and is linked to numerous murder and attempted murder cases.
