Elite Navy Unit Deploys to West Bank Amid Escalation Fears

In response to growing security concerns about escalating tensions and ongoing violence between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank, Israel's elite naval commando unit, Shayetet 13, has begun operations in the Judea and Samaria region. The unit will target high-value objectives and focus on areas experiencing significant violence.

A security official confirmed Shayetet 13's deployment, stating that all special forces units are expected to participate in counter-terrorism efforts in the West Bank. "This is a very sensitive period with a great potential for escalation," the official noted.

This move follows recent warnings from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that friction between Israelis and Palestinians across the West Bank could ignite the region. Following a series of situation assessments and analyses of the terrain, warnings, incitement, and a rise in nationalistic crime and friction incidents, the situation has been defined as "volatile" and prone to sudden escalation.

Consequently, the IDF has decided to reinforce its forces around settlements and main routes in the Central Command with 26 battalions. Nine of these battalions will be deployed as combat companies to expand territorial control and maintain readiness for various emergent events.
