Israeli Navy Holds Annual Memorial for Fallen Shayetet 13 Commandos at Atlit Base

The Israeli Navy held its annual memorial ceremony at Atlit base to honor the 90 fallen soldiers of Shayetet 13, the elite naval commando unit. The event was led by Navy Commander Major General Eyal Harel and attended by bereaved families, current and former commanders and soldiers, members of the Batlaff Association, and other guests paying tribute to the heroes who died defending Israel.

Alfredo Vaks, representing the families, delivered a poignant speech remembering his sons, Staff Sergeant Amit Vaks and his brother Yigal Vaks, who were killed in action on October 7, 2023, during the defense of Netiv HaAsara. He emphasized their voluntary choice to serve in the most challenging unit out of love for the country, camaraderie, humility, and dedication. Vaks expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the unit and called on everyone to continue living with love, unity, and national pride in honor of the fallen.

Major General Eyal Harel also spoke, highlighting the continuous combat operations of the naval commandos across various theaters, both overt and covert. He reaffirmed the Navy's commitment to uphold the values and path set by those who sacrificed their lives. The ceremony underscored the enduring legacy and spirit of Shayetet 13 within the Israeli Defense Forces.
