The governor of Thailand's Phuket province has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the activities of the Chabad Lubavitch center in Patong.
Thai authorities have been given seven days to examine the land documents, building permits, and licenses pertaining to the Chabad Patong facility. This directive follows recent controversies, including the cancellation of a Rosh Hashanah meal and a dispute over gravesites in Bangkok, which have drawn attention to the organization's operations.
Rabbi Nechemia Wilhelm, a representative of Chabad, stated that their centers are "completely legal." The investigation aims to clarify the legal standing and operational compliance of the Chabad house in Patong.
