Weissman Explains Emotional Goal Celebration After Seven-Year Absence

Striker Sean Weissman of Beitar Jerusalem scored his first goal in the Israeli Premier League in seven years during the team's 3-1 victory over Maccabi Petah Tikva on Tuesday. Following the match, Weissman explained his emotional celebration, stating he felt his grandfather was watching over him.

Weissman, who had been away from Israel for seven years, recalled that his grandfather passed away the day after Rosh Hashanah seven years ago, the last time he celebrated the holiday in Israel. He felt his grandfather was present when he scored and couldn't hold back his emotions. "I came with the feeling that he was watching when I scored, I didn't stop myself. Thank God for everything," Weissman said.

He also reflected on his return to the league, mentioning an injury sustained against Austria Vienna that slightly delayed his progress. Weissman expressed happiness with the team's win and his personal goal, emphasizing his commitment to helping the club. He described the connection with Beitar's fans as "crazy," even before playing at their home stadium, Teddy, and thanked them for their support.
