Paul Avery, best known for playing bartender Huggy on the long-running soap opera "All My Children," died this week in a house fire at his home in New Jersey. He was 81. His wife, Sheila Avery, also died in the blaze.
According to reports, police and firefighters were called just after midnight on Tuesday to the couple’s home in Blairstown, in northwestern New Jersey. Both were trapped inside the burning house. Rescue crews managed to pull them from the building, but they were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Avery’s career also included a role in the 1978 "Superman" film, as well as appearances on "Three's Company" and "Tales from the Darkside." "All My Children" ran for 41 years, and Avery appeared on the series as Huggy.
Their daughter, Kyle Avery, paid tribute, saying, "With a heavy heart, I share that our parents, Paul and Sheila, have passed away. We loved them very much, and they loved us very much."
