LOD Sports Department Celebrates New Year with Achievements and Expansion Plans

The Sports Department of the Lod Municipality, along with representatives from local sports associations and city officials, held a traditional toast to mark the start of the new Hebrew year (5787) and a new sports season. The event, which has become a tradition, celebrated numerous achievements from the past year and outlined plans for expanding sports activities, particularly for children and youth.

Mayer Eliyahu, Director of the Sports Department, reviewed the department's extensive activities over the past year, which he stated brought honor and pride to Lod. He thanked the department staff, sports association leaders, and the municipal management for their cooperation and commitment to advancing sports in the city, emphasizing that these achievements were the result of collective effort.

Deputy Director and Head of the Sports Division, Yaron Zard, discussed the upcoming year's plans, focusing on increasing the scope of sports activities and diversifying the sports and programs available to residents. Special emphasis was placed on expanding activities for children and youth within the city's schools.

Einat Zacharia, who was appointed a year ago as the coordinator for school sports programs, leads school sports clubs, organizes tournaments and sports days, coordinates swimming lessons for fifth graders, and promotes new initiatives to increase sports participation across all sectors in collaboration with the education and sports departments. Her work has significantly strengthened the connection between the education system and the city's sports world.

The gathering concluded with participants raising glasses of wine, tasting apples and honey in observance of the holiday tradition, and wishing each other a year of success and achievements. Attendees enjoyed refreshments prepared by department staff Mazal Tayeb and Keren Pelach.
