AI Prompting Guide: Interview the AI for Better Results

A new method for interacting with artificial intelligence tools suggests shifting from direct, single-sentence prompts to an "interview" process, where the AI asks the user clarifying questions. This approach, likened to a professional's initial consultation before starting a project, aims to elicit more precise and useful outputs, saving time and improving quality.

The core idea is to have the AI prompt the user, a technique dubbed "Grill Me." Instead of the user dictating terms, the AI asks up to three questions at a time, with each answer guiding the next question. This dynamic exchange helps define crucial details like the target audience, desired tone, previous attempts, and what constitutes a successful outcome, information often omitted in simple prompts.

This method addresses the AI's lack of context, which otherwise leads it to generate statistically average or generic responses. By answering the AI's questions, users effectively provide the necessary background, ensuring the AI's output is tailored to their specific needs. The interview is considered complete when the AI begins repeating questions or when it indicates it still lacks sufficient context.

Once the interview concludes, the gathered information should be extracted into a separate file. This creates a reusable asset, preventing the need to re-establish context for similar tasks.
