Israeli TV Host Exposes Vast Price Differences for Bakery Items Abroad
Channel 14 host Lital Shemesh has publicly expressed outrage over the high cost of living in Israel, particularly concerning food prices. During a trip abroad, Shemesh visited a branch of the French bakery chain "Maison Kayser," which also operates in Israel, to compare prices.
Shemesh shared on her Instagram story that sandwiches at the bakery in Crete were priced between 3.50 and 4.90 euros, approximately 15 shekels. She contrasted this with prices in Israel, stating that the same chain charges "2.5 times" more for similar sandwiches.
Her post reignited a heated public debate about the significant price disparities between Israel and Europe for consumer goods. While a basic sandwich at similar establishments in Israel can cost between 35 to 40 shekels, the same chain offers comparable products abroad at much lower prices without compromising quality.
Many social media users shared Shemesh's post, echoing her frustration and expressing deep disappointment that Israeli consumers continue to pay inflated prices for everyday items.
